Steps in the Composite Filling Process

Thorough dental cleaning and exam – Before any work can be done on your teeth, they must be thoroughly cleaned and examined. Prepare the composite resin—Once the tooth is ready, your dentist will prepare the composite resin filling material. Apply the composite resin filling to the cavity—The dentist will begin to fill in the hole left by the cavity, filling any nooks and crannies caused by the decay. The goal is to recreate the surface of the damaged tooth so that it is as close as possible to what it was before the damage. This is important if the top of the tooth is affected. The teeth on the bottom and top need to fit together naturally so they aren’t damaged in any way.

The curing process—In order for the composite resin filling to harden, it must be cured using a blue light. The resin is applied in layers and cured after each step, ensuring it is as hard as the tooth that surrounds and supports it.
